New Fabric - New Motivation

This past weekend as we were out and about, my husband and I happened to pass a new fabric store. This store had been in it's location for only 10 weeks and they had quite a variety of trimmings, notions and fabrics. As you may be aware, I've been saying for some time that I don't need anymore fabric as I have acquired quite a bit over the years and really need to start putting it to good use. Therefore, I was just going in to browse . . . While they had quite a bit of fabric, it didn't look like they had anything for us . . at first.

Just before we left we arbitrarily browsed the silk when I saw a BEAUTIFUL golden silk, fully beaded. Instantly I saw a Tudor Doublet for my husband in the making but presumed the price would be daunting. Since I just had to know what the cost would be, we asked and were surprised with a relatively low price of $35 per yard. Daunting but not impossible. As we debated the owner of the store offered us a discount for being first time customers and with that we couldn't resist. Now I had to remember from memory what yardage I would need without having ever made the Doublet before. As I debated this we continued to look.

We managed to find the same beading on a dupioni silk instead of the vintage silk we had first selected. However the new silk was in a mint green color and was more appropriate to my husband's color preference. They also had a non-beaded dupioni in a similar color so that was purchased to be pants (see fabric pictured above the beaded piece).

As we browsed they also had a lovely silk plaid in green instead of the bright reds and pinks so often seen elsewhere. Although I'm not doing a lot of female American Civil War reenacting right now, my husband was generous and told me I could have it and I'm pretty sure I got enough to do both a day bodice as well as a ball gown from this fabulous material. Unfortunately the picture does not do the color and beauty of this fabric justice.

Our purchases were carefully wrapped and we took them home, my excitement and nervousness building to work with these wonderful fabrics.

Unfortunately I have some MUST DO projects before I can commit to sewing on these projects. The Black Rose Ball is in October and the Tudor project needs to be done by then so it can be worn for that event so I have some time to get myself truly worked up before cutting into this fabric. But with this new fabric just shouting to be made into wonderful things I'm anxious to get my MUST DO projects done. Keep an eye on this space!
