So construction began today on a new Italian Renaissance dress for me. I have until this weekend to complete it so it is going to be interesting. This go around I'm attempting to recreate yellow dress with blue sleeves in this picture.
We found an beautiful yellow brocade on sale which is going to be the basis. The blue sleeves are going to be linen and I'm debating making them reversible as I will also eventually want a blue dress with yellow trimmings but I think for time sake we may not. For the black trim I've obtained a velvet ribbon in 2 different widths, but I regret that I didn't get enough to trim the bottom of the skirt and so I may have to go back for that .. it just slipped my mind while I was in the store. Ooopps.
The entire thing will be using my pattern from the last Italian Ren but this time we are not slashing the sleeves. The only thing that I have left to decide is if I want to bone the bodice enough to not need my corset with this one . . which is looking more and more tempting even though it will be more time consuming on the forefront.
Although the cord belt looks quite nice, I've got a metal one that I will substitute it for at this point. Perhaps if I learn to weave belts like shown at some point I'll upgrade but for now I'm going to work with as much as I can of what I already have available given the short time line.
