Embroidery Finished

Several years ago, my mom asked me for a gift made by my hand for Christmas. I found a poem online that I thought was wonderful and took about putting it onto cloth via embroidery for her to hang on her wall or display elsewhere.

When I started the project several people commented on the scope of work but I figured it would go fairly quickly. It did go somewhat quickly…for a while…and then my mind wandered to other tasks, activities and crafts. Periodically my mom would ask me for an update on the progress which would encourage me to drag it back out and go back to work on it.

Once I finished the letters I thought the border would go really quickly and I was encouraged, for a while. It didn’t take long for me to realize that although the border was a larger motif and could utilize more of the standard stitches, my patience struggled with embroidery as a whole.

I am happy to say that, after many years, I was able to wash and send the finished product to my mom. She has been really excited about it. I can see all the places where I rushed it along versus spending meticulous time on it. Of course as soon as I finished it, I found some wonderful new stitches on Pinterest that would have worked perfectly in certain areas. Sigh. I don’t know that I want to try them enough to take on another embroidery project of this magnitude though. Perhaps, once some time has passed, I will be encouraged on a project again.
